Acinetobacter baumannii MLST Databases

This site uses two linked databases powered by the BIGSdb genomics platform. The sequence definition database contains allele sequence and MLST profile definitions whereas the isolate database contains provenance and epidemiological information. Further details about BIGSdb can be found in Jolley & Maiden 2010, BMC Bioinformatics 11:595.

This database hosts two MLST schemes. The first is described in Bartual et al. Development of a multilocus sequence typing scheme for characterization of clinical isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii. J Clin Microbiol 2005, 43:4382-4390. This is commonly referred to as the 'Oxford' scheme because it was hosted on the PubMLST site at the University of Oxford. This scheme was developed by Sergio G. Bartual in the laboratory of Francisco Rodríguez-Valera (Miguel Hernandez, Alicante, Spain) and in close collaboration with Harald Seifert (University of Cologne, Germany).

The second scheme is described in Diancourt et al. The population structure of Acinetobacter baumannii: expanding multiresistant clones from an ancestral susceptible genetic pool. PLoS One 2010, 7:e10034. This is commonly referred to as the 'Pasteur' scheme in order to differentiate it from the 'Oxford' scheme.

Databases curated by Hilmar Wisplinghoff, Raffaelle Zarrilli, Virginie Passet and Sylvain Brisse.

Citing the database

The preferred format for citing this website in publications is:

This publication made use of the Acinetobacter baumannii MLST website (http://pubmlst.org/ abaumannii/) developed by Keith Jolley and sited at the University of Oxford (Jolley & Maiden 2010, BMC Bioinformatics, 11:595). The development of this site has been funded by the Wellcome Trust.
